Lee’s Summit expects to open a police satellite office at Summit Fair during the first week of November 2026, creating a department workspace in the shopping center under a no-rent license that calls for periodic foot patrols.
The city announced the anticipated opening on Oct. 28. The City Council had already approved the agreement on Sept. 22 through Bill No. 26-174, authorizing the city manager to execute it. The October announcement was about the expected opening, not a new council vote.
What the license provides—and costs
The agreement gives the Police Department use of approximately 500 square feet for an initial 24 months, or two years. It then renews automatically each year unless terminated under the agreement. Police officers and retail-theft detectives may use the space as a workspace.
In exchange for the space, the arrangement calls for periodic foot patrols within the shopping center. The agreement leaves scheduling to the Police Department’s discretion and does not set a fixed patrol frequency. City materials describe foot patrols as part of normal department operations.
The space has no rental charge, but the city’s legislative record lists utilities at $150 per month and approximately $2,750 for security upgrades. At the listed utility rate, 12 months would cost $1,800. Adding that to the security-upgrade figure gives approximately $4,550 across those two listed items—not a full operating-cost estimate.
Not a place to file a police report
Can visitors file police reports at the Summit Fair office? No. The city says the site is not intended for public police reports; people who need to file a report in person should use another Police Department location.
The city describes addressing organized retail crime, improving police visibility and strengthening business relationships as aims of the office. Those are stated goals, not reported results: the city’s announcement did not report a measured reduction in crime.
