Cincinnati gas prices dip from Wednesday, while diesel ticks higher

Regular gas eased from Wednesday in Cincinnati, diesel edged higher, and both fuels remain well above last week, month, and year for drivers.

Regular gas slips, diesel nudges higher

AAA’s latest Cincinnati (OH only) metro check shows regular gasoline at $4.686 a gallon, down 2.6 cents from Wednesday. Diesel moved the other way, landing at $5.864 a gallon, up 1.1 cents from the previous day. For commuters, delivery drivers, contractors, and anyone filling up a work vehicle, the split move is notable, but the bigger story is that both fuels are still expensive.

Regular gas is still up 23.7 cents from a week ago, 84.0 cents from a month ago, and about $1.69 from a year ago. Diesel is up 51.8 cents from a week ago, 60.4 cents from a month ago, and about $2.36 from a year ago. That keeps diesel especially painful for small fleets, haulers, service crews, restaurants, and other businesses that burn through fuel quickly.

Cincinnati still runs above the U.S. average

The national AAA average is $4.558 for regular and $5.674 for diesel, so Cincinnati is still running about 13 cents higher on regular and 19 cents higher on diesel. The Energy Information Administration’s latest weekly update, released May 5, also showed U.S. regular gasoline at $4.452 and diesel at $5.640 on May 4, both higher than a week earlier. That national backdrop helps explain why local prices remain elevated even after a small day-to-day move.

FOX19 reported a late-April surge across Greater Cincinnati, and today’s AAA snapshot shows the market has not fully backed off from that jump. This is not a major reversal. It is a mixed daily move inside a still-costly fuel market that affects commuting budgets, weekend travel, school runs, contractor bids, delivery schedules, and the operating costs of local businesses.
