Boston drivers are paying $4.172 a gallon for regular gas and $5.813 for diesel in AAA’s latest metro check, posted April 30. Regular gasoline is still below AAA’s U.S. average of $4.300, but diesel is above the national average of $5.804.
Regular gas has climbed 20.0 cents in the past week, 36.6 cents in the past month, and about $1.20 from a year ago. That matters most for commuters and households filling up once or twice a week, even if Boston is still a little under the national benchmark.
Diesel is the bigger burden for fleets, contractors, delivery drivers, restaurants, and other small businesses that burn fuel every day. AAA shows Boston diesel essentially flat from a week ago, but up 13.3 cents from a month ago and about $2.00 higher than a year ago.
The Energy Information Administration’s latest weekly update, released April 28, put U.S. regular gasoline at $4.123 and on-highway diesel at $5.351, underscoring how elevated fuel costs remain even as the week-to-week moves differ by market.
