City Services Resume Amid Ongoing Cold
Alexandria’s government offices, facilities, and courts have returned to regular operations following the recent winter storm. However, Alexandria City Public Schools remain closed for in-person learning, with virtual instruction continuing via Zoom. A cold weather advisory is in effect until 11 a.m., with wind chills as low as 9 below zero. Residents are advised to exercise caution during this period.
Alexandria Restaurant Week Extended
In response to the winter storm’s impact on local businesses, Alexandria Restaurant Week has been extended through Sunday, February 8, 2026. Nearly 80 participating restaurants are offering curated $35, $45, or $55 per person dinners, along with special offers at local fast-casual favorites. This extension provides an additional week for residents and visitors to explore Alexandria’s diverse culinary scene.
Investigation Underway in Fatal Shooting
Alexandria police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Wednesday evening in the 900 block of N. Patrick Street. Officers responded to reports of shots fired at approximately 6:36 p.m. and found both victims inside an apartment building with apparent gunshot wounds. Both were transported to a local hospital, where the adult male later died. Detectives are actively investigating and have increased patrols in the area.
