Investigation After Body Found in Northeast Lincoln

Lincoln police are continuing to investigate after a body was discovered in a pond in the northeast part of the city earlier this week. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing as they work to determine the identity of the individual and the cause of death.

Officials have not indicated foul play at this stage but say more information will be released once next of kin are notified and autopsy results are complete. The area around the pond was temporarily closed as crews processed the scene.

Huskers Celebrate First NCAA Tournament Win

There’s also excitement on campus after the Nebraska men’s basketball team secured the first NCAA men’s tournament victory in program history on March 19, defeating Troy 76-47.

The milestone win adds to what has already been a standout season for the Cornhuskers, who entered the tournament ranked in the national polls. Downtown Lincoln saw watch parties and celebrations following the decisive victory, with fans hopeful the team can continue its run.

Wildfire Recovery Continues Across Nebraska

While not in Lincoln directly, the massive Morrill Fire in western Nebraska remains a major statewide story. As of March 23, the fire had burned more than 640,000 acres and was reported at 98% containment.

State leaders continue to assess damage and support affected communities. The scale of the fire has drawn attention across Nebraska, including in Lincoln, where relief efforts and donations are being coordinated to help impacted families.
