Boil water advisory lifted for New Orleans East: what residents should do next
SWBNO canceled a precautionary boil water advisory for parts of New Orleans East, including Oak Island. Check whether your address is in the affected area list.
Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO) has canceled a precautionary boil water advisory for a defined portion of New Orleans East after water pressures in the area fell below 20 pounds per square inch (psi) due to a water main break. SWBNO says it canceled the advisory in consultation with the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) after water samples tested negative.
Date/time of cancellation: Sunday, June 28, 2026 at 2:19 PM. It is not an across-the-city “all clear,” so residents should confirm whether their address is included.
Where the cancellation applies
SWBNO’s notice covers these streets/corridors and an entire subdivision:
- Hayne Blvd from Paris Rd to Vanderkloot Ave
- Paris Rd from Hayne Blvd to I-10 Service Rd
- I-10 Service Rd from Paris Rd to Bundy Rd
- Bundy Rd/Vanderkloot Ave from I-10 Service Rd to Hayne Blvd
- Entire Oak Island Subdivision
Why the advisory was issued
SWBNO says the precautionary boil water advisory was issued after water pressures dropped below 20 psi due to a water main break affecting a large part of the neighborhood. Water samples from across the area then tested negative for contamination.
What to do now (especially if you didn’t use your water)
If you did not use your water during the advisory period, SWBNO advises flushing internal and external plumbing by running water through your system for several minutes.
SWBNO’s after-advisory guidance also includes:
- Run all cold water faucets for at least 5 minutes.
- Flush home ice makers by making and getting rid of 3 batches of ice.
- Drain and refill hot water heaters if the heater was set below 113°F.
Where to check for any additional boil-water updates
Even though this notice cancels the advisory for the New Orleans East area listed above, the SWBNO boil-water advisories page is the best place to confirm whether any other advisories are currently active for your address.
