Brevard schools continue Promethean-board inspections
Brevard Public Schools said Oct. 15 that districtwide inspections of Promethean boards were still underway after a display fell on five-year-old Bellamy Dawkins-Morris at Riviera Elementary School in Palm Bay on Oct. 7. He died after the incident.
The district said initial internal inspections had not identified visibly loose screws. That statement does not establish the condition of the board involved or explain why it fell. The district also said an independent third party was conducting an investigation and the Palm Bay Police Departmentโs investigation remained ongoing. It said it would share the independent investigation when it concludes.
WFTV reported Oct. 14 that Bellamyโs family had retained attorneys Maegan Bridwell and Michael Haggard of The Haggard Law Firm. Bridwell said the firm was investigating the displayโs design, installation and maintenance; those are areas of inquiry, not findings of fault.
WKMG reported Oct. 14 that Haggard considered a wrongful-death lawsuit likely. As of that report, no lawsuit had been filed and responsibility had not been determined.
