Caltrans warns: I-405 lane reductions start July 17 (Sepulveda Pass)

Caltrans is planning extended overnight weekend lane reductions along southbound I-405 through the Sepulveda Pass. The agency says southbound I-405 will be reduced to two lanes for the posted work windows, and northbound I-405 won’t be impacted by lane reductions. Detour / routing guidance (what to expect)

• Northbound U.S. 101 to southbound I-405: Traffic will exit at the Sepulveda Boulevard off-ramp, head south on Sepulveda Boulevard, then re-enter via the Sepulveda Boulevard on-ramp to reach southbound I-405.

What’s not expected to change

Caltrans says northbound I-405 won’t be impacted by lane reductions during these extended overnight weekend work periods. Still, ramp/connector closures may affect how some drivers reach I-405, depending on which movement you use.

Project context: part of I-405 Sepulveda Pass pavement rehab

Caltrans says these short-term weekend lane reductions are part of the larger I-405 Pavement Rehabilitation Project covering a 10.2-mile stretch between the Los Angeles communities of Van Nuys and Westwood along the Sepulveda Pass. The project includes replacing sections of two lanes in each direction from Victory Boulevard to Mulholland Drive, and Caltrans says the overall work applies about $143.7 million to improve safety and mobility and extend pavement life.
