City Preps for FY27 Budget With Winter Workshop
The City of Cape Coral hosted a Winter Workshop on January 29 and 30, 2026, at 9 a.m. in Council Chambers, 1015 Cultural Park Blvd. This workshop served as a kickoff to the 2027 Budget season and provided an opportunity for the public to offer input to City Council and staff. The agenda included an economic update, a review of various master plans, and a discussion of the City’s Strategic Plan. Changes to Rental Registration and Fees Effective January 1, 2026
Beginning January 1, 2026, changes adopted by Cape Coral City Council to the City’s Residential Rental Registration Program took effect. These changes establish annual renewal requirements and strengthen enforcement provisions. The new annual fees are $35 for long-term rentals (more than six months) and $350 for short-term rentals (six months or less). Online registrations and renewals are available through the City’s rental registration portal. New enforcement provisions introduce fines for failing to register, renew, or accurately report rental type.
Gulf Coast Traffic Alerts: January 31
As of January 31, 2026, several traffic incidents have been reported in the Gulf Coast area, including Cape Coral. A crash on Colonial Boulevard and Veronica S. Shoemaker Boulevard has blocked two eastbound lanes. Additionally, all northbound lanes near the intersection of Collier Boulevard and City Gate Boulevard North are closed due to a vehicle incident. A traffic crash has also shut down Summerlin Road at Maple Drive in Lee County. Drivers are advised to seek alternate routes and exercise caution.
Weather Advisory: Wind and Cold Weather Warnings
The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory in effect from January 31, 3:00 PM EST until February 1, 7:00 AM EST. Gusty winds may blow around unsecured objects, and tree limbs could be blown down, potentially causing power outages. A Cold Weather Advisory is also in effect from January 31, 10:00 PM EST until February 1, 10:00 AM EST. Very cold temperatures can lead to hypothermia with prolonged exposure. Residents are advised to secure outdoor objects and dress warmly when venturing outside.
Upcoming Event: Chasing Denver at Fathoms
On January 31, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, Matt and Victoria, a husband and wife acoustic duo specializing in country music, will perform at Fathoms at Cape Harbour. The duo, who met in Southwest Florida and have been making music together since 2018, will cover artists such as Waylon Jennings, Riley Green, Faith Hill, and Miranda Lambert. The event is free and open to the public.
