A fire at the Quaker Oats facility in downtown Cedar Rapids was under control by 6:15 p.m. CDT Saturday, Oct. 24, and the Cedar Rapids Fire Department reported that no one was hurt or killed, KCRG reported.
The first call came at 4:44 p.m., KCRG reported. By 5:30 p.m., all plant workers had been accounted for. The control update came 91 minutes after the first call; that interval describes the response timeline, not how long the fire burned.
Firefighters were still working on hot spots at 6:15 p.m. At 6:25 p.m., limited final-effort and interior-overhaul operations remained inside the building. The later update shows that โunder controlโ did not mean crews had finished their work. The reports did not establish that the fire was fully extinguished.
The cause remained under investigation, KCRG reported.
