Chattanooga Gas Rises Slightly; Diesel Nears $4.89 in AAA Check

Chattanooga-area regular gasoline and diesel both rose slightly from the previous day in AAA’s latest price check, but their weekly trends continued to diverge: regular gas was lower than a week earlier while diesel kept climbing toward $4.90 per gallon.

For Friday, July 31, 2026, AAA listed the Chattanooga metro average for regular gasoline at $3.675 per gallon. That was up 0.4 cents from the previous day but down 3.6 cents from one week earlier. As a Chattanooga metro average, the figure was 30.8 cents higher than one month earlier and $1.006 higher than the same period last year.

Diesel continued to climb

AAA listed the Chattanooga metro average for diesel at $4.889 per gallon on July 31. Diesel also rose 0.4 cents from the previous day, but it was up 5.2 cents from the prior week.

Compared with one month earlier, the Chattanooga metro diesel average was 74.1 cents higher. Year over year, it was up $1.610 per gallon. The average remained just below $4.90, a level that can create significant cost pressure for businesses operating trucks, vans, heavy equipment and other diesel-powered vehicles.

Why the split matters locally

Gasoline costs are most directly felt by household commuters, weekend travelers and people driving to restaurants, services and local events. A metro average does not mean every station is charging the same amount; prices can vary by corridor, brand, payment method and neighborhood.

Diesel near $4.89 can add operating-cost pressure for trucking and delivery companies, contractors, landscapers, utilities, agricultural operations and other businesses that depend on diesel vehicles or equipment.
