Chattanooga’s City Council has unanimously approved a $29.9 million budget amendment, allocating funds to critical infrastructure and public safety projects. The amendment includes:
- $18 million transferred to the Police and Fire Pension Fund to meet recommended funding levels.
- $3 million dedicated to repairing sewer laterals.
- $1 million for improvements to Crest Road.
- $700,000 for sidewalk enhancements near Big Ridge Elementary.
- $500,000 for pedestrian safety improvements on Hixson Pike from Fernway to Barton.
Mayor Tim Kelly emphasized the city’s strong fiscal position, noting that general fund reserves are more than double the recommended amount. The amendment aims to address long-term savings and infrastructure needs while maintaining conservative budget principles.
