Hamilton County voters head to polls Thursday for state, federal and county election

Chattanooga-area voters will cast ballots Thursday, Aug. 6, in a combined state and federal primary and Hamilton County general election. Election Day polling hours have been reported as 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., but voters must use the polling place assigned to their registration.

Early voting ran from July 17 through Aug. 1 and has ended. Before leaving for the polls, the Hamilton County Election Commission advises voters to verify their registration information, assigned polling location and applicable sample ballot.

What voters will decide

The state and federal primary ballot includes contests for governor, U.S. Senate, U.S. House, Tennessee Senate District 11 and Tennessee House districts 26 through 30. Democratic and Republican ballots also include state executive committee contests in districts 10 and 11.

The county general ballot includes Circuit Court Judge, Division 2, county mayor, county commission districts 1 through 11, county trustee, Sessions Court Judge, Division 2, sheriff, court clerks, county clerk and register of deeds.

School-related contests include Hamilton County school-board districts 3, 5, 6, 8 and 9. The official notice also lists Lookout Mountain Commission, Collegedale and Red Bank city judge races, Lookout Mountain School Board seats and seven judicial retention questions.

Where and when to vote

Election Day voters must go to the polling place assigned to their registration. The Chattanooga early-voting locations listed by the election commission were the Hamilton County Election Commission at 700 River Terminal Road and the Chris L. Ramsey Sr. Community Center at 1010 N. Moore Road. Both sites closed for early voting after Saturday, Aug. 1; their published early-voting hours do not apply to Election Day.
