Cincinnati Daily Brief: Riverfront Live case, flooding risk, housing plans
Cincinnati, OH – March 6, 2026 – Riverfront Live shooting updates move forward as flood risks linger and the city rolls out faster multi-family housing plans.
1) Riverfront Live shooting: arrests and federal charges
Investigators say two men have been arrested in connection with the March 1 shooting inside Riverfront Live in the East End that sent nine people to hospitals. City leaders said the injuries were not life-threatening, and detectives have leaned on surveillance video and witness interviews as the case develops.
Federal prosecutors have since announced charges tied to illegal gun possession for people with prior felony convictions. Separately, the venue owner said security practices and event operations are being reviewed in the wake of the violence.
2) Flood watch fallout, then near-record warmth
After days of heavy rain, parts of the region dealt with high water, road closures, and rescues earlier this week. With creeks and rivers still elevated, forecasters warned that additional rounds of rain and thunderstorms could quickly recreate localized flooding problems.
At the same time, Cincinnati is flirting with near-record warmth on March 6, with another wet system expected to arrive over the weekend. The combination of saturated ground and another burst of heavier rain is the main concern for commuters and low-lying areas.
3) City housing push: pre-approved plans for small multi-family
City officials are moving ahead with a plan to make it easier to build two-, three-, and four-unit housing by creating pre-approved design options. The goal is to shorten review timelines, reduce design costs for smaller projects, and encourage more so-called middle housing in established neighborhoods.
The city expects to open a design competition later this year and publish a pattern-book style set of plans that builders can use as a starting point, rather than reinventing the wheel on every small infill project.

Traffic restrictions are posted for Bockfest events running March 6 through March 8, with street closures and temporary no-parking zones in the event footprint. If you are headed into the festival areas, build in extra time and check posted signage.
