Clarksville finalizes $178.7 million budget with higher tax rate
Clarksville City Council has adopted the city’s FY2026-27 budget, setting $178,728,553 in General Fund expenditures and a higher property-tax rate for the coming fiscal year.
The council approved the budget on second and final reading July 9, 2026. The city later published a revised final budget document on July 27, saying amendments had been incorporated.
The FY2027 property-tax rate is $1.01 per $100 of assessed value, up from the previous rate of $0.92. That is a 9-cent increase in the rate.
The rate change alone does not establish that every property owner’s tax bill will increase by the same percentage. Individual bills also depend on assessed property values, and the approved source material does not provide calculations for specific properties.
Public safety and city facilities are central priorities
The adopted budget identifies several public-safety and city-facility priorities. They include a new Building & Codes facility, repairs to the City Hall elevator and a new Clarksville Fire Rescue Station 3.
The city also lists rebuilding Fire Rescue Station 1 and purchasing a new fire truck. For the Police Department, the priorities include a District 4 facility. An employee clinic is included among the other listed projects.
Those items place emergency-response buildings, equipment and city operations among the most visible areas addressed by the budget. The source material does not provide a separate total allocation for each project, however. It also does not establish that every listed priority is fully funded or already under construction.
Road widening is included in the plan
Transportation is another part of the city’s budget priorities. The plan identifies Rossview Road widening, connecting the spending framework to a major local road project as well as to public-safety and municipal facilities.
The city’s finalized budget release does not provide a construction schedule, completion date or project-by-project spending breakdown for Rossview Road widening. Those details remain unavailable from the approved sources.
Budget followed debate over school-related sales taxes
The July 9 vote followed council debate over a proposed sales-tax adjustment affecting the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System, according to Clarksville Now.
The available reporting confirms that the proposal was debated, but it does not provide enough information to describe the proposal’s full terms or final outcome. The city budget itself establishes Clarksville’s General Fund spending plan and property-tax rate; it should not be treated as a complete account of the separate sales-tax question.
The budget was adopted by a majority of the full council. The approved material does not describe the vote as unanimous.
What residents can review next
The July 27 publication of the revised final budget document is the latest known step in the process. Because amendments were incorporated, that document is the key public record for checking whether line items changed from the version considered during the July 9 vote.
For residents, the adopted budget sets the city’s spending framework and property-tax rate while identifying fire stations, police facilities, roads and other municipal buildings as priorities. The source packet does not identify additional deadlines for the projects or provide a separate timetable for implementation.
