CUSA Tournaments Secured, March Madness Tips Off; Major Events Fill Huntsville Calendar
Huntsvilleโs March calendar is off to a fast start, with major sports and civic events drawing attention across the Rocket City.
CUSA Championships Locked In Through 2029
Conference USA has extended its championship partnership with Huntsville through 2029, solidifying the cityโs role as a recurring host site for high-profile collegiate tournaments.
The agreement means the Von Braun Center will continue welcoming menโs and womenโs basketball championships, along with other conference events, over the next several years. Local leaders say the move reinforces Huntsvilleโs growing reputation as a destination for large-scale sports tourism and championship play.
This week, that spotlight turns to the hardwood. The 2026 CUSA Basketball Championships tip off March 10 and run through March 14 at Propst Arena, bringing 20 teams to compete for conference titles and NCAA tournament bids.
Elevate the Stage Draws Youth and NCAA Talent
Over the weekend, Propst Arena also hosted the sixth annual Elevate the Stage gymnastics event from March 6โ8. The competition featured more than 1,500 youth gymnasts alongside NCAA programs including Auburn, Clemson, Georgia and Pitt.
The event gives young athletes the rare chance to compete on a podium stage similar to collegiate championships, adding another major youth sports draw to Huntsvilleโs expanding events lineup.
Washington Update Brings Federal Focus
On Monday, March 9, the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber hosted its 2026 Washington Update featuring U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville. The annual event offers business and community leaders insight into federal priorities affecting North Alabama, including defense, aerospace and economic development.
With championship sports, youth athletics and federal policy discussions all converging in the same week, Huntsville continues to balance its identity as both a sports hub and a center of national defense and technology influence.
