Data Center Plan Advances as Louisville Gears Up for Busy Weekend

It’s a packed weekend in Louisville, with major development decisions, seasonal time changes, and community celebrations all converging.

West Louisville Data Center Moves Forward

The Louisville Metro Planning Commission has approved a revised development plan for a proposed data center in west Louisville. The decision came after a lengthy public hearing where dozens of residents voiced concerns about electricity demand, environmental impact and potential utility costs.

City officials said the property’s zoning had already been established in prior years, limiting their ability to halt the project outright. Leaders indicated they plan to review how similar projects are evaluated in the future, aiming for earlier community input on large-scale developments.

Clocks Spring Forward Sunday

Daylight saving time begins at 2 a.m. Sunday, March 8. Clocks will move forward one hour, meaning residents will lose an hour of sleep but gain extended evening daylight in the weeks ahead.

Sunrise and sunset times will shift immediately, marking the unofficial start of longer spring days across Kentuckiana. Officials encourage residents to also use the time change as a reminder to check smoke detector batteries.

Korean Festival & Community Events

The Kentucky Exposition Center is hosting the Louisville Korean Festival & Showcase on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The free event features cultural performances, food vendors, crafts and community booths, with proceeds supporting local programming.

Meanwhile, Monster Jam roars into Freedom Hall this weekend, bringing two days of high-powered motorsports entertainment. Families can also catch additional pop-up events and markets happening across the city through Sunday.

Kentucky Derby Trophy Tour Stops in Louisville

As Derby season approaches, the Kentucky Derby trophy is making public stops at select Louisville-area Kroger stores this weekend. Fans will have opportunities to take photos with the iconic prize before it returns to Churchill Downs ahead of the 152nd Run for the Roses.
