Louisville Gas Falls While Diesel Rises on Aug. 1 AAA Check
Louisville regular gas averaged $3.596 on Aug. 1, while diesel reached $4.772. Regular gas fell from recent comparison points, but diesel continued to rise.
Louisville regular gasoline prices eased while diesel prices moved higher in the latest AAA Fuel Prices check dated Aug. 1, 2026. Regular gas averaged $3.596 per gallon, while diesel averaged $4.772.
Regular gas is lower
AAA listed Louisville regular gasoline at $3.596 per gallon on Aug. 1. That was 3.6 cents below the previous dayโs $3.632 average, 6.7 cents below the week-ago average of $3.663 and 6 cents below the $3.656 average recorded on July 30.
The longer comparisons were higher. Louisville regular gas was 20.1 cents above the month-ago average of $3.395 and 59.9 cents above the year-ago average of $2.997. Those differences describe how prices compare over time but do not establish a specific cause.
Diesel is moving higher
Diesel followed the opposite pattern. AAAโs Aug. 1 Louisville average was $4.772 per gallon, up 1.2 cents from the previous dayโs $4.760, 7.7 cents from the week-ago average of $4.695 and 2 cents from the July 30 average of $4.752.
Diesel was also 36.1 cents above the month-ago average of $4.411 and $1.344 above the year-ago average of $3.428.
Dixie Highway station price was below the AAA average
The 7-Eleven/Speedway station at 5339 Dixie Highway listed regular gasoline at $3.489 and diesel at $4.699 in a listing updated within 24 hours. The regular-gas price was 10.7 cents below the AAA Louisville average, while the diesel price was 7.3 cents below it.
AAAโs figures are Louisville averages and do not represent the price at every station. The Dixie Highway figures apply only to that individual location and can change separately from the city average. Drivers may see different prices by station, neighborhood, payment method or time of day.
National and Midwest context
The latest U.S. Energy Information Administration release, dated July 28, listed regular gasoline at $4.096 per gallon nationally and $3.882 in the Midwest for the week of July 27. EIA listed on-highway diesel at $5.313 nationally and $5.196 in the Midwest for the same week.
Those figures provide broader context rather than a same-day Louisville comparison. EIAโs next scheduled gasoline and diesel release is Aug. 4.
What the split means locally
For commuters and households, the lower regular-gas average may offer limited short-term relief, although Louisvilleโs average remains well above its year-ago level. Weekend travelers and people attending local events may want to compare several nearby stations before filling up because prices can vary within the city.
Dieselโs higher price matters particularly to trucking and delivery operators, construction crews, farmers, landscapers, utility contractors and other businesses using diesel-powered vehicles or equipment. Restaurants and service businesses may also track fuel costs as part of delivery, supply and travel expenses. The price data alone does not show whether any business has changed its prices or operations.
