Eugene Waste Haulers Face Lane County Fee and Schedule Changes Aug. 10

Lane County’s new waste-transfer fees and service reductions take effect Monday, Aug. 10, changing disposal costs and operating schedules for Eugene-area haulers, businesses and residents who use the county waste system.

The Lane County Board of Commissioners approved the changes July 7, 2026, through Order 26-07-07-06. The county says the package responds to a reported $3 million budget gap in its Waste Management Division and includes higher disposal fees, a new minimum charge, reduced hours at multiple transfer sites and the permanent closure of the Walton Transfer Site.

What changes Aug. 10

Transfer-site fees will increase by 5 percent. The new minimum fee at county transfer sites will be $25, and the $1 discount for bringing recyclables to transfer sites will end under the approved changes.

Lane County also will reduce operating hours at several locations. Creswell will be open Friday and Saturday only, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Veneta will be open Wednesday through Saturday on the same schedule. Other sites will have shorter hours.

The Walton Transfer Site, at 18585 Transformer Road, will permanently close Aug. 10. Lane County says the Waste Management Division is funded through waste-related fees rather than income or property taxes.

Why Eugene is affected

Lane County says haulers serving Eugene, along with haulers in unincorporated Lane County, Florence and Oakridge, are required to bring waste into the county system.

The City of Eugene’s licensed-hauler information says commercial collection rates include applicable disposal fees and Lane County fees in the basic rate. That makes the county’s action relevant to Eugene commercial waste service, although the county order does not by itself establish an immediate or identical increase on every customer’s bill.

Any change to a business’s collection charge will depend on the hauler, service arrangement and rate structure. The approved county action changes fees paid into the waste system; it does not announce new private-hauler rates for Eugene customers.

Glenwood schedule and disposal costs

The Glenwood Transfer Station is at 3100 E. 17th Avenue in Eugene. Beginning Aug. 10, the county’s revised schedule lists Glenwood hours from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday during April through September. From October through March, the station will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and closed Sunday.

The revised fee schedule lists a $25 minimum for loads of up to 1 cubic yard at Glenwood. Larger garbage loads at Glenwood and Florence are charged at $123.10 per ton, subject to the minimum fee.

Residents and businesses planning a disposal trip should check the county schedule before leaving, particularly if they previously used Walton or another facility with reduced hours.

What Eugene users should watch

The immediate confirmed changes are the 5% transfer-site fee increase, the $25 minimum, the end of the transfer-site recycling discount, reduced hours and Walton’s closure on Aug. 10.

For Eugene households, the effect will not necessarily appear as an immediate or uniform change in residential collection bills. Commercial customers and haulers may face higher county disposal charges, but any pass-through to customers depends on individual contracts and rates.

Eugene-area waste users should plan around the new Glenwood schedule, account for the higher minimum charge and confirm rate information with their hauler. The county changes begin Monday, Aug. 10, 2026.
