McLean Boulevard east-end detour remains scheduled through Aug. 16 in Eugene
McLean Boulevard remains closed to through traffic between Graham Drive and the McLean cul-de-sac as Eugene’s paving project moves through its east-end detour phase. The City scheduled that phase for Aug. 4 through Aug. 16, 2026, but the current road advisory says the paving schedule is being updated after utility-line adjustments.
Resident access is being maintained. The scheduled Aug. 16 end date is a target, not a guaranteed reopening date.
What is closed
The through-traffic closure covers McLean Boulevard between Graham Drive and the cul-de-sac containing addresses 2002 through 2074. Residents can continue reaching properties in the work zone, but local drivers should move slowly and watch for workers, large trucks, equipment, cones and changing traffic control.
The City’s road advisory says paving was paused during the week of Aug. 3 while NW Natural lowered and adjusted service lines that conflicted with the planned paving design. That utility work was expected to continue through Aug. 7, after which the contractor was to provide an updated paving schedule.
Official detour routes
The east-side detour directs traffic between Graham Drive and Chambers Street via 28th Street. The City’s advisory also lists a separate through-traffic detour using Lasater, Randy and 29th before returning to McKendrick Street and McLean Boulevard, in the opposite direction as needed.
Drivers should follow posted signs and the City’s East-Side McLean Boulevard Detour Route map rather than entering the closed segment or relying on an unmarked shortcut. People who live near McLean Boulevard should expect active work within the closure area even though local access remains open.
What the project includes
The McLean Boulevard project will rehabilitate the street from Graham Drive to Chambers Street, including the cul-de-sac. The work includes removing the existing asphalt surface in the cul-de-sac, full-depth reclamation on McLean Boulevard before resurfacing, and final paving.
The project also includes upgraded ADA-accessible sidewalk ramps, new sidewalk along portions of the north side where sidewalk is missing, sidewalk connections and stormwater improvements intended to improve surface drainage and repair failing infrastructure.
Advice for walkers and cyclists
People walking or biking should use caution near the closure and follow signs, cones and directions from construction workers. Active work and heavy equipment can change how people move through the area, so travelers should avoid restricted portions of the work zone.
The City’s road advisory specifically cautions bicyclists to make sure equipment operators can see them when passing near active equipment. Pedestrians should follow any posted routing around closed access points.
What happens next
The east-end detour is scheduled to remain in place through Aug. 16. Construction timing may change as utility adjustments, paving and related work proceed.
