Here are the Fresno stories leading the conversation heading into the weekend, based on reporting and official statements from the past three days.
City Hall weighs limiting building access tied to a council race
Fresno city leaders are moving toward an ordinance that would restrict registered sex offenders from entering certain city facilities. The push is closely tied to District 7 politics after a potential council candidate, Rene Campos, drew attention because he is a registered sex offender.
Campos has criticized the proposal as an overreach and says voters, not rules about building access, should decide who serves. City officials have framed the idea as a public-safety and workplace issue, and the debate now appears headed for a public, legally sensitive discussion about access to government spaces.
Attempted-murder arrest tied to a December disturbance
Police say an attempted-murder investigation led to the arrest of Joseph Dominguez on Feb. 24 in connection with a Dec. 27, 2025 incident near Maroa and Shields. Investigators say the victim suffered severe head trauma and facial injuries and was taken to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Authorities say a juvenile was arrested the day of the incident, and the adult arrest this week followed witness information and follow-up investigation. The case remains under review as prosecutors consider next steps.
Bicyclist hospitalized after collision near Highway 99
A bicyclist was hospitalized after being struck near Olive Avenue and Parkway Drive, close to a southbound Highway 99 onramp. Police say the bicyclist entered the onramp as a vehicle was merging, and emergency crews provided lifesaving aid before transport to the hospital.
Officers said the driver remained at the scene and cooperated. As of the latest update, the bicyclist’s condition had not been released.
