Top story: Overnight shooting in southeast Fresno

Police are investigating after gunfire sent a man to the hospital early Monday at an apartment complex in southeast Fresno. Officers responded just before 1:30 a.m. to reports of multiple rounds fired near Winery and Lane and found the victim inside his apartment with a gunshot wound to the upper body. His condition had not been released Monday afternoon.

Investigators say several rounds hit the complex. Anyone with information was asked to contact Fresno police.

City Hall: Sidewalk vending rules get another rewrite

The city has moved to update its sidewalk vending rules after a court decision elsewhere in California found portions of local-style street vending restrictions can conflict with state law. Fresno officials approved an amendment meant to align local rules with that decision, including changes to when mobile food vendors are allowed to operate.

City leaders emphasized that health and business permitting requirements remain in place, and that enforcement and escalating fines for unpermitted vending will continue.

Traffic & enforcement: A 120-mph chase and stepped-up DUI patrols

On Saturday, a CHP pursuit that began with a speeding driver on Highway 180 ended in a crash in East Central Fresno. Authorities say the driver later ran a stop sign at Belmont and Jackson and hit another vehicle, sending the other driver to be checked for injuries. The suspect was arrested on felony evading allegations tied to the crash.

Separately, Fresno police announced extra officers on weekend DUI saturation patrols, a reminder that impairment can include alcohol, cannabis, and certain medications. Officials say the goal is to cut down on serious crashes as spring events pick up around the city.

Downtown saw a boost of visitors this weekend with Central Section high school basketball championship games at Selland Arena, part of a busy stretch for local youth sports.
