Greensboro Sees $1B in Construction Growth as Road Closures and Health Events Shape the Week

Greensboro, NC – April 3, 2026 – New data shows $1B in construction, NCDOT plans road closures, and Guilford County highlights maternal health efforts.

Greensboro is closing out the week with fresh data on growth, upcoming transportation impacts, and new public health initiatives that could shape local policy discussions this spring.

$1 Billion in Construction Investment

A newly released annual growth and development report shows more than $1 billion was invested in construction across Greensboro in 2025. Residential and commercial property values increased by more than $200 million compared to 2024, reflecting steady expansion in both housing and business development.

City leaders say more than 3,000 building permits were issued last year. Planning officials have emphasized the need for balanced growth, noting that future investment should support mixed-income housing, neighborhood retail, and infrastructure that keeps pace with job creation.

The data comes as Greensboro prepares for its FY 2026-27 budget process, with adoption expected in mid-June.

Nightly Road Closures Planned

Drivers in west Greensboro should plan ahead next week. The N.C. Department of Transportation announced nightly closures of Gallimore Dairy Road between Green Point Drive and South Chimney Rock Road from April 7 through April 10.

The closures, scheduled from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., will allow crews to complete utility-related work. A signed detour will direct traffic along Green Point Drive, Federal Drive, and South Chimney Rock Road. Officials are urging motorists to use caution in the work zone.

Infrastructure upgrades like this often feed into broader transportation and capital planning discussions at both the city and county level.

Public Health Focus: Black Maternal Health Week

Guilford County Public Health is also spotlighting community health equity. Every Baby Guilford is hosting Black Maternal Health Week 2026: Walk & Family Day, promoting access to maternal health resources, education, and support services.

Organizers say the event is designed to strengthen connections between families and local providers while addressing disparities in maternal outcomes. The initiative aligns with ongoing county-level efforts to integrate public health, housing stability, and transportation access.

Looking Ahead

With strong construction numbers, active infrastructure projects, and budget planning underway, Greensboro is entering the spring with growth on the agenda. The next several weeks will likely bring more clarity on how city leaders intend to balance expansion with affordability and long-term community investment.
