Hollywood weighs taller, denser development along beach

Hollywood officials are considering changes that could allow taller, denser development along Hollywood Beach, according to proposal coverage published Aug. 6, 2026. The changes are intended to encourage investment and generate public benefits, but they have not been approved by the Hollywood City Commission.

The proposal focuses on relaxing beach-area height limits and changing density rules. Residents have raised concerns that high-rise development could alter the character of Hollywood Beach.

What is under review

City review continues

The City of Hollywood’s legislative calendar lists a special Planning and Development Board meeting for Aug. 4, 2026, and a Historic Preservation Board meeting for Aug. 11, 2026. The Aug. 11 meeting is the next identified city review date in the current schedule.

The Planning and Development Board and Historic Preservation Board are part of the city’s review process for development and preservation matters. The final height, density and zoning language remain unsettled in the proposal’s current public description.

Any changes to the beach-area rules still require action by the City Commission. A commission vote date has not been established, leaving the proposal under consideration rather than making it an approved change to Hollywood Beach development standards.
