Irving Cancels DART Exit Vote, Life Sentence in Chick-fil-A Case, and Police Investigate Fatal Crash
Irving, TX – March 9, 2026 – City leaders cancel a DART exit vote, a gunman receives life in prison, and a fatal crash draws arrests.
City Council Cancels DART Exit Election
The Irving City Council voted in late February to cancel the city’s planned May 2, 2026 election on whether to withdraw from Dallas Area Rapid Transit.
In a separate action, council members approved a mobility funding agreement that will return tens of millions of dollars to Irving over several years for local transportation projects. The decision follows regional negotiations aimed at keeping member cities in the DART system while adjusting funding and governance.
The move means Irving voters will no longer see the withdrawal question on the May ballot, signaling a shift toward collaboration rather than separation.
Life Sentence in 2024 Chick-fil-A Double Homicide
An Irving man has been sentenced to life in prison for the 2024 shooting deaths of two employees at a local Chick-fil-A.
Prosecutors said the gunman opened fire at the restaurant where his wife worked, killing two workers and injuring others. A Dallas County jury handed down a life sentence on the murder charge, along with additional prison terms for aggravated assault.
The case deeply affected the Irving community, and the sentencing brings a measure of closure nearly two years after the tragedy.
Fatal Crash Leads to Arrests
Irving police are investigating separate crashes that occurred in the early morning hours last week, including one that left a person dead.
Authorities said multiple people were arrested in connection with the incidents. One crash proved fatal, while another caused significant traffic delays during the morning commute.
Police have not released all details but say the investigations remain active.
