Irving Daily: DART vote scrapped, SH 114 delays, and new city grant funding

1) Transit: DART exit vote taken off the ballot

Irving City Council voted 7-2 on Feb. 26 to cancel a May 2 special election that would have asked voters whether the city should withdraw from DART.

City and transit leaders framed the decision as a negotiated reset, tied to an interlocal agreement and a general mobility funding plan intended to steer tens of millions back into local transportation projects over the next several years.

2) Roads: SH 114 delays near DFW Airport

Drivers in Las Colinas saw major slowdowns Feb. 26 after a large truck incident near State Highway 114 and the President George Bush Turnpike narrowed westbound traffic to a single lane for a time.

When crashes hit that airport corridor, backups can stack up quickly, so checking a live traffic map before you roll can still save time.

3) Community funding: CDBG applications available March 2

The city says Community Development Block Grant applications for eligible nonprofits will be posted online starting Monday, March 2. The program is aimed at services benefiting low- to moderate-income Irving residents, with an application deadline of 5 p.m. Friday, April 3.

4) City facilities: Heritage Senior Center upgrades begin this month

Renovations are set to begin at Heritage Senior Center, 200 S. Jefferson St., including a new hardwood ballroom floor and a redesigned courtyard with added shade and new amenities. The city says the work is expected to wrap up by summer 2026.

5) Calendar: North Texas Teen Book Festival returns March 7

Irving is also gearing up for the North Texas Teen Book Festival on Saturday, March 7 at the Irving Convention Center. Organizers describe it as a free, one-day celebration of teen and tween literature with a full slate of author panels and activities.
