Irving Today: Brush Fire Contained, CDBG Applications Open, Animal Services Committee Meets

Irving, TX – March 3, 2026 – Fire crews stopped a brush fire near Oak Lea, CDBG grants open for nonprofits, and a city advisory meeting is tonight.

Public safety: Brush fire contained near Oak Lea Drive

Irving firefighters quickly put out a brush fire reported Sunday morning along railroad tracks near the 1700 block of Oak Lea Drive, close to E. Grauwyler Road. The call came in around 8:52 a.m., and crews were able to keep the flames from spreading to nearby homes and buildings.

No injuries were reported, and officials have not released a cause. As we head deeper into spring wind season, it is a good reminder that small grass and brush fires can move fast near fences, sheds, and tree lines.

City programs: CDBG public-service funding opens for nonprofits

The city says Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) applications are now available online for eligible nonprofit organizations that provide services benefiting low- to moderate-income Irving residents. The applications opened Monday, March 2.

The city’s notice also lists an application deadline of 5 p.m. Friday, April 3, with late or incomplete submissions not accepted. Groups without reliable internet access can contact the Housing and Redevelopment Division for assistance.

On the calendar: Animal Services Advisory Committee meets tonight

The Animal Services Advisory Committee is scheduled to meet Tuesday, March 3, at 6:00 p.m. Residents who like to track local policy discussions around pets, shelter operations, and animal welfare can find meeting details and any posted documents through the city calendar listing.
