Jackson Gas Prices Hold Near $3.65 as Diesel Nears $5
Regular gasoline in the Jackson metro averaged $3.651 per gallon and diesel averaged $4.981 in AAAโs price check dated August 1, 2026. Gasoline has changed little over the past day and week, while diesel remains just below the $5 mark and continues to carry larger cost increases over longer comparison periods.
Regular gas is nearly flat in the short term
The Jackson-area regular-gas average rose 0.3 cents from the previous day and was up 1 cent from the week-ago average. That is a modest move for drivers making daily commutes or weekend trips.
The longer-term comparison is more significant. Regular gasoline was 17.7 cents higher than the month-ago average and 92.9 cents higher than the year-ago average, according to AAAโs Jackson metro figures.
Diesel remains close to $5
Diesel increased 0.6 cents from the prior daily check and was 7.1 cents higher than a week earlier. At $4.981 per gallon, the metro average had not crossed $5, but it was close enough for diesel-dependent operators to keep fuel costs in focus.
Diesel was 63.9 cents higher than a month ago and $1.708 higher than a year ago. Those increases matter beyond the pump because diesel is widely used by trucking, construction, landscaping, agriculture, delivery fleets and other commercial operations.
Why the difference matters locally
For most households, the latest gasoline reading points to relatively little change since the previous check, even though the monthly and yearly comparisons remain higher. Commuters and weekend travelers may still find meaningful savings by comparing nearby stations, since individual pump prices can vary across Jackson-area neighborhoods and major corridors.
Dieselโs near-$5 average can put more pressure on contractors, farmers, delivery businesses, restaurants and service companies. Those businesses may face higher transportation or operating costs, although the available price data does not establish whether any particular company has changed prices, staffing or services.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration provides broader gasoline and on-highway diesel context for national and regional market movement, but the AAA Jackson metro averages are the figures most directly relevant to local drivers. The latest check shows a split trend: regular gas is nearly steady in the short run, while diesel has moved higher and remains substantially above last yearโs level.
Before filling up, compare prices at several stations along your route rather than assuming the metro average matches every pump. What are the highest and lowest regular-gas or diesel prices you are seeing in Jackson? Share the locations and prices with other local readers.
