Primary election results posted for Collin County

Unofficial results from Tuesday’s March 3 primary continued to firm up overnight, with Collin County reporting all precincts and several state legislative races now showing clear winners. Races that touch McKinney voters include Texas House districts 61, 67, 70 and 89, plus Texas Senate District 2. In House District 61, Keresa Richardson won the Republican primary, while Brittany Black won the Democratic primary. In House District 67, Jeff Leach won the Republican primary and Jordan Wheatley won the Democratic primary. Results remain unofficial until they’re canvassed, but the numbers give campaigns and voters an early picture of the matchups heading into November.

Early voting also stayed busy locally, with more than 72,000 ballots cast in Collin County before Election Day.

New Fire Administration Campus opens as a public-safety upgrade

The city announced the grand opening of its new Fire Administration Building at 2100 Taylor Burk Drive. The 40,000-square-foot facility is designed as the operational hub for fire administration, emergency management, training, EMS and the Fire Marshal’s office, and it includes the city’s Emergency Operations Center for coordinated response during major incidents.

The building is part of a larger $53 million fire headquarters campus that also includes a logistics center and a replacement Fire Station No. 2, funded through bond funds approved by voters in 2019. City leaders said the move also helps the police department expand within the existing Public Safety Building.

Neighborhood conference set for Saturday, March 7

McKinney will host the North Collin County Neighborhood Conference from 9:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the McKinney ISD Community Event Center. The free program is geared toward residents and neighborhood groups, with a focus on how economic development and long-range planning connect to infrastructure, services and quality of life.

Barrio Tacos opens in McKinney

A new build-your-own taco spot is set to open today at 9401 W. University Drive, Suite 150. The concept is planning a 3 p.m. opening and is promoting an opening-day giveaway for early arrivals, along with a menu built around customizable tacos plus margaritas and other bar options.
