Short-term rentals: annual registration approved
McKinney City Council has approved an ordinance change that will require short-term rentals to register with the city every year. The program is designed to help the city identify where rentals are operating, speed up responses to nuisance complaints, and support enforcement when problems pop up after hours.
City staff said the first rollout will not include an annual fee, aiming to keep compliance simple. Operators will need to provide 24/7 contact information as part of registration. The council vote was 4-2, with two members opposing and one absent, and city leaders signaled the policy could be revisited later if staffing or technology costs grow.
$2.7M in local grants for senior housing, history and tourism
The McKinney Community Development Corp. approved nearly $2.7 million in project grants for three initiatives that touch housing, downtown amenities, and preservation. The largest award supports infrastructure tied to McKinney Ranch Senior Living, an independent senior community planned with 109 units, including 72 set aside for low-income seniors.
Smaller grants back new restroom facilities at Chestnut Square and building-preservation work at the Collin County History Museum. Project backers said the senior living development is targeting a late-March groundbreaking.
McKinney National Airport terminal project reaches 60% complete
Construction on McKinney National Airport’s new passenger terminal continues to move forward, with the project team saying the building is roughly 60% complete and tracking for a November finish. The $72 million effort includes a roughly 47,000-square-foot terminal and related airside and landside improvements, part of the city’s long-running push toward commercial air service.
