McKinney ISD Schools Reopen After Winter Storm Closures
McKinney, TX — January 30, 2026 — After multiple days of closures due to a winter storm, McKinney ISD schools reopened on January 29, resuming normal activities and schedules.
The decision to close schools on January 28 was made for the safety of students, parents, and staff after assessing road conditions in coordination with local emergency officials. While major roads had improved, many neighborhood streets and farm-to-market roads remained hazardous. The district’s facilities team worked diligently to clear sidewalks, driveways, and parking lots across campuses. All school-related activities, including after-school programs and extracurricular events, were canceled for that day. The district communicated updates through email, phone calls, and text messages to keep parents and guardians informed.
Looking ahead, McKinney ISD is preparing for the upcoming McKinney Historic Half marathon, scheduled for March 28, 2026. This inaugural event aims to celebrate community, history, and healthy living in McKinney. The race will feature a half marathon, 5K, and a Kids 100M Dash, welcoming participants of all ages and experience levels. Proceeds from the event will benefit Scottish Rite for Children of Frisco, supporting pediatric orthopedics and sports medicine care for children throughout North Texas. Registration is now open, and more information can be found on the official event website.
For the latest updates and information, residents are encouraged to monitor the McKinney ISD website and local news outlets.
