Midland council to hear 20-acre planned housing development near Arlington and Deauville
Midland City Council is scheduled to hear a request Tuesday, Aug. 11, to rezone a 20.15-acre tract near Arlington Road and Deauville Boulevard for housing development.
The property is at the southwest corner of Arlington Road and Deauville Boulevard in Council District 4. Maverick Engineering is requesting a change from MF-16, Multiple-Family Dwelling District, to PD, Planned Development District.
The council meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon at Midland City Hall, 300 N. Loraine.
What the request involves
The cityโs zoning notice identifies the property as a 20.15-acre tract out of Section 38, Block 40, T-1-S, T&P RR Co. Survey, in the City and County of Midland. The request is described as a zone change from MF-16 multifamily zoning to PD zoning for housing development.
The available notice does not establish how many homes could be built, what type of housing is proposed or how the property would ultimately be laid out. A zoning request is not the same as a final site plan or construction approval.
Where the request stands
The matter was scheduled for a Planning and Zoning Commission hearing Monday, Aug. 3, at 3:30 p.m. at City Hall. That meeting was part of Midlandโs zoning review process. The available records reviewed for this article do not establish what action the commission took or whether it made a recommendation.
The next listed step is the City Council hearing on Tuesday, Aug. 11. The meeting is a scheduled hearing on the rezoning request, not confirmation that a housing development has been approved.
What residents should watch
If the request advances, later records may provide more detail about the proposal and its potential effect on the surrounding area. Those records could address the number and type of homes, site layout, access, utilities, construction timing and other development conditions.
At this stage, the cityโs available zoning notice and meeting records do not establish a final site plan, home count, construction schedule, financing arrangement or infrastructure commitment. They also do not establish projected traffic, school or public-service effects.
The council could advance, modify, delay or reject the zoning request. Residents can follow Midlandโs zoning notices and meetings, agendas and minutes portal for the hearing record and any later decision.
