Monticello Continues N. Francis Street Lane Closures

Motorists using N. Francis Street in Monticello should expect continued lane restrictions after the original work schedule changed.

A City of Monticello notice posted July 21, 2026, said restrictions would continue along N. Francis Street between Main Street and the city limits. Drivers should not rely on the original July 13-20 schedule as the current status of the work.

Two separate work activities

The work involves two distinct activities. NIPSCO is conducting tree-clearing work connected to its utility operations, while the City of Monticello Street Department is handling culvert repairs.

The city’s June 29 traffic advisory described daytime lane or roadway restrictions in the affected area. It also warned that an overnight closure could be necessary on one day, depending on the work. That warning does not establish that an overnight closure occurred, and the updated city notice does not provide a new completion date in the approved materials.

What drivers should expect

Drivers traveling on N. Francis Street north of Main Street may encounter lane restrictions, traffic-control devices, flaggers or changing access conditions. The city’s advisory urged motorists to follow posted directions and use alternate routes when directed.
