On Saturday morning, approximately 250-300 protesters gathered at Main Plaza to rally against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Despite New Braunfels’ conservative leanings, the demonstration drew a significant crowd advocating for immigrant rights. The protest was part of a nationwide movement following recent events in Minneapolis and the detention of a young child in Dilley, Texas. Participants chanted, “No ICE. No hate. No fear. Immigrants are welcome here.”
Canyon Middle School Lockdown Lifted
On Friday, Canyon Middle School was placed on lockdown after reports of a potential threat. Law enforcement responded promptly, and after a thorough search, the lockdown was lifted three hours later. New Braunfels High School reopened its doors on January 6, 2026, following the completion of Phase 1 of a $327 million renovation project.
