New International Service at Warwick’s Green Airport Creates a Different Travel Option for Rhode Island Passengers

Warwick’s T.F. Green International Airport now has a nonstop connection to Praia, Cabo Verde, giving Rhode Island passengers a direct alternative to itineraries requiring a connecting airport.

TACV Cabo Verde Airlines began the Providence-to-Praia service on May 4, 2026. The Rhode Island Airport Corporation announced the route on April 22, 2026, so the announcement date and the operating launch date were separate milestones.

What is operating from T.F. Green

The route departs from T.F. Green using airport code PVD and arrives at Praia’s RAI airport. Current independent schedule listings identify Cabo Verde Airlines flight VR691 as a nonstop PVD-to-RAI service operating once weekly.

For the week of August 3 through August 9, 2026, the published schedule lists VR691 departing PVD at approximately 3:30 p.m. The listed flight time is about seven hours. Schedule pages also list departures in later weeks, including August 10–16, August 17–23, August 24–30 and beyond.

Why the route matters locally

The Rhode Island Airport Corporation said the year-round service was designed primarily for people visiting friends and relatives between Rhode Island and Cabo Verde. The airport also identified leisure and tourism travel as uses for the route.

For passengers with family or cultural ties to Cabo Verde, a nonstop flight can eliminate the need to arrange a connection through another airport. Leisure travelers also have a direct option to Praia rather than connecting before reaching Cabo Verde.

The airport’s April announcement said the service would use a Boeing 737 MAX 8 configured with 174 economy seats and would support longstanding family, cultural and economic connections between Rhode Island and the Cabo Verdean community. Those details describe the announced service plan and should not be read as a guarantee of the aircraft assigned to every flight.

Published frequency remains the key detail for travelers

The airport said TACV was evaluating a possible second weekly frequency later in 2026. AeroRoutes separately reported a planned second routing beginning June 5, 2026, but the current schedule pages reviewed for the week of August 3–9 and subsequent listed weeks show one weekly PVD-to-RAI departure, VR691, at about 3:30 p.m.

The route is a return for TACV. The airport said the airline previously served T.F. Green from June 2015 through January 2018.

For Warwick-area and Rhode Island travelers, the practical takeaway is that T.F. Green has an operating nonstop option to Praia, with a currently published afternoon departure and a flight time of roughly seven hours.
