Norfolk Daily Brief: Missing person alert, City Hall updates, and weekend highlights

Norfolk, VA – February 26, 2026 – Police seek a missing woman, council posts meeting actions, tax deadlines near, plus weekend arts and sports.

1) Police ask for help locating missing woman

Norfolk Police are seeking help finding Lashonda Harp, 51, who was last seen around 10:40 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, near Sentara Leigh Hospital on Kempsville Road. Police said she has vascular dementia and may need medical assistance. Anyone with information is asked to call 911.

2) City Council publishes actions from Feb. 24 meeting

City leaders posted the official actions taken on the Feb. 24 City Council formal agenda. If you follow local rezonings, contracts, or budget moves, this is the quickest way to see what passed, what changed, and what’s headed to the next round.

3) Deadline watch: business licenses and real estate taxes

The city treasurer’s office and commissioner of the revenue issued reminders on upcoming due dates: business license renewals are due March 1, and third-quarter real estate taxes are due March 31. If you mail payments, it’s worth building in extra time.

4) A history talk from the MacArthur Memorial (virtual)

Looking ahead: a free virtual lecture is set for March 5, featuring author Steve Vogel discussing his book on the U.S. Army’s Task Force Faith and the Chosin Reservoir campaign, plus what happened when survivors returned home.

5) Weekend calendar notes: music and hockey downtown

Old Dominion University is hosting the Hampton Roads Harp Festival and Competition Feb. 27–28, bringing performers and students together for concerts and events centered on the harp. Meanwhile, Wednesday night at Scope Arena, Norfolk’s hockey club fell 3-2 after giving up three straight goals.
