Overland Park Daily: Development, Roads and Community Updates
Overland Park Daily Briefing
Overland Park, KS — February 17, 2026 — Here’s a quick look at what’s changing around town, from big development moves to upcoming road work.
Bluhawk adds hotel and entertainment district
Plans for the Bluhawk development in south Overland Park took a major step forward with final approvals for two key pieces: a new hotel and a retail and entertainment district known as The Boundary. The district will sit across from the Bluhawk Sports Park and is designed as a walkable hub for dining, shopping and family-friendly activities.
Developers say the goal is to give visiting tournament families and local residents an all-in-one destination, similar in feel to larger regional entertainment zones. The build-out is targeted for completion by 2026, adding to the AdventHealth sports complex, medical facilities and existing retail already anchoring the site.
Clock Tower Landing aims for summer 2026 opening
Downtown’s Farmers’ Market project, now branded as Clock Tower Landing, continues construction toward a planned summer 2026 completion. The long-term upgrade will deliver new indoor market space, more shade and seating, expanded restrooms and improvements to nearby streets and the clock tower plaza.
The city is emphasizing sustainability in the design, with solar panels on the pavilion roof, electric vehicle charging stations, native landscaping and cooler pavement materials. This year’s Farmers’ Market operations are temporarily shifted to the Matt Ross Community Center to keep vendors open while work continues.
Road projects and closures on the way
Drivers in south Overland Park should prepare for more construction activity through 2026. The city’s street projects include work on Quivira Road between 179th and 187th Streets, where new bridges, bike lanes, a roundabout at 179th and a multi-use trail are being added. Construction began last year and is scheduled to wrap up in late fall 2026.
The city is also advertising an upcoming public information meeting on February 24 at Matt Ross Community Center to discuss improvements along 175th Street between 179th and Antioch. Meanwhile, ongoing closures such as the College Boulevard bridge project over Indian Creek continue to affect traffic near Mastin and Grant.
Chamber initiative targets talent and jobs
The Overland Park Chamber of Commerce is promoting its Opportunity NOW initiative, a multi-year plan focused on attracting and retaining workers, supporting job growth and keeping the city competitive for new investment. The program ties together workforce development, business recruitment and efforts to keep Overland Park welcoming to employers and entrepreneurs.
Local leaders frame the initiative as a way to match the city’s rapid development with strong career options for residents and a deeper pipeline of skilled workers for growing companies.
