Overland Park has six early-voting days left before Aug. 4

Overland Park and other Johnson County voters have six early-voting days remaining before the Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2026, primary. Advance voting continues through Saturday, Aug. 1, then returns for a final session Monday, Aug. 3, from 8 a.m. to noon.

Regular advance-voting hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. All sites are closed Sunday. Any registered Johnson County voter may use any of the county’s 12 advance-voting locations, and voters must present a valid government-issued photo ID when voting in person.

Overland Park-area early-voting locations

The Johnson County Election Office lists these three advance-voting locations at Overland Park addresses:

• Arts and Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave.
• Hilltop Conference Center Blue Valley, 7700 W. 143rd St.
• Overland Park Arboretum Longhouse, 9209 W. 179th St.

The county lists the Longhouse with an Overland Park mailing address, while KCUR‘s reporting identifies the location as Bucyrus. Voters can use any county advance-voting site, including locations in Olathe, Mission, Lenexa, Shawnee, De Soto, Spring Hill and Gardner.

Why the voting network changed

The 2026 plan is an Election Office decision under Kansas’ election commissioner structure. The Johnson County Election Office says the plan was not subject to approval by the Board of County Commissioners or the Kansas Secretary of State’s Office.

The Election Office says it reviewed historical turnout, facility availability, geographic distribution, drive times, transit access and operating efficiency. It says more than 80% of early in-person voters historically used a core group of locations and that about 90% of county voters live within a seven-minute drive of one of the 12 current sites.

KCUR reported that the countywide network changed from 18 early-voting locations to 12 and that eight previously used sites were eliminated. In Overland Park, those removed locations included Central Resource Library, Oak Park Library, Johnson County Community College’s Midwest Trust Center and Tomahawk Ridge Community Center.

Residents, organizers and elected leaders have criticized the process, questioning whether the cuts could make early voting harder in higher-density, lower-income or transit-dependent areas. The county says the new network is more consistent and geographically balanced. The disagreement remains part of an ongoing debate about access and transparency.

Mail ballots have more drop-box options

Voters who already have a mail ballot can return it through the county’s drop-box network. Johnson County says official ballot drop boxes are available at all 14 Johnson County Library branches. Additional drive-through boxes are available at the Johnson County Election Office in Olathe and the Northeast Johnson County Offices in Mission.

County guidance says mail ballots must be received by 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, to be counted. July 28 is also the deadline to request a mail ballot for the primary. Drop boxes are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week during the voting period and close at 7 p.m. on Election Day.

Voters who do not use advance voting can cast a ballot at their assigned Election Day polling place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Aug. 4. Because locations and rules can change, voters should check the Johnson County Election Office’s current advance-voting page before traveling.
