Palmdale Boulevard Full Closure and Detours Expected Through October
Palmdale Boulevard is fully closed between 50th Street East and 70th Street East as the City of Palmdale carries out a major roadway reconstruction project listed to continue through October 2026.
The latest City of Palmdale road-construction update, posted July 26, confirms that the full closure and detours are in place for the week of July 27 through August 2. Drivers using the east-west corridor should plan for added travel time and use alternate routes, although the city’s current notice does not specify individual detour roads.
What the project includes
The work is identified as Project PN 869A and involves full-depth reconstruction rather than a routine surface repair. The city says the project will rebuild the roadway along Palmdale Boulevard between 50th Street East and 70th Street East. Construction is being completed in two phases.
Work began Monday, July 13, 2026. The city’s project page lists construction hours as 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding legal holidays. The current schedule lists an October 2026 end window.
An earlier City of Palmdale public-meeting notice referred to completion by September 30, but that date is no longer the schedule shown on the city’s current project page. Residents should treat October as the latest listed completion window, not a guaranteed reopening date.
Cost, funding and neighborhood effects
The city’s July 2 announcement puts the public-facing project cost at $3.9 million. Funding comes through California’s SB 1 transportation program and gas-tax funds.
For nearby residents and businesses, the city warns that construction may bring noise, dust, odors, delays and other temporary inconveniences. The full closure may also affect access for workers, customers, deliveries and people traveling between neighborhoods on either side of the project limits.
Because the closure is expected to remain part of the construction setup during the project, commuters should allow extra time rather than assuming the roadway will reopen between work periods. Conditions and traffic controls may change as crews move through the two phases.
Where to get updates
The City of Palmdale’s Palmdale Boulevard pavement-rehabilitation project page and weekly road-construction notices are the best places to check for schedule or closure changes.
For general information, the city lists the Public Works Department at 661-267-5300. The project page also lists the City inspection line at 661-267-5255 and an Onward Engineering project contact at 855-692-4890.
