Police Patrols Increase, Water Released Early, Cleanup Signups Open in Fresno
Fresno, CA – March 25, 2026 – Police boost patrols after deadly shootings, irrigation officials release water early amid heat, and cleanup signups open.
Increased Patrols After Deadly Shootings
Fresno police are stepping up patrols across the city following a violent stretch that has left four people dead in shootings over the past five days. Two of the victims were teenagers killed earlier this week in northeast Fresno.
Police Chief Mindy Casto said preserving life remains the department’s top priority as investigators work to identify suspects, most of whom remain at large. Officers have increased their presence in affected neighborhoods, canvassing for evidence and reassuring residents.
Community leaders say the visible patrols have brought some comfort during an otherwise unsettling week.
Irrigation District Releases Water Early
Unseasonably high temperatures are also making headlines. After several days of record-breaking March heat, the Fresno Irrigation District began releasing water to growers roughly two weeks ahead of schedule.
Temperatures climbed into the 90s, prompting concerns about water storage levels at Pine Flat Reservoir. District officials said delaying deliveries could have risked losing valuable supply.
While canals are already filling, water managers caution that if dry conditions continue, supplies could tighten by midsummer. Another key snowpack measurement is expected April 1, which will provide a clearer picture of the months ahead.
Great American Cleanup Registration Underway
On a more uplifting note, registration is now open for the Great American Cleanup in Fresno. The city plans to host 25 cleanup and beautification sites on April 18, including locations in the Tower District and Woodward Park.
Organizers say volunteers will receive cleanup supplies, an event T-shirt and an invitation to a thank-you celebration afterward. The effort is part of a broader national campaign tied to America’s 250th birthday, with communities aiming to remove billions of pieces of litter by July 4.
City leaders are encouraging residents to sign up early and help spruce up neighborhoods across Fresno.
