Santa Clarita Daily Briefing
Santa Clarita, CA – February 18, 2026 – A winter storm, a key school board meeting, and a regional arrest tied to local residents are topping today's headlines.
Storm forces Six Flags Magic Mountain closure
Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia remained closed Monday as a powerful Pacific storm brought heavy rain and strong winds across Los Angeles County. Forecasters warned of hazardous driving conditions, localized flooding and gusts strong enough to raise safety concerns for large rides and outdoor operations. The park told guests that unused tickets dated for the closure can be used on any regular operating day through the end of 2026, easing the sting for families who had planned a Presidents Day outing.
The closure was part of a broader weather pattern soaking Southern California, with officials urging residents to slow down on slick roads, watch for fallen branches and avoid driving through standing water. Santa Clarita residents can expect periods of additional showers and lingering wind as the system moves east.
Hart district board meets this evening
The William S. Hart Union High School District governing board is scheduled to meet tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at the district boardroom. The meeting comes as campuses settle into the spring term and continue to navigate enrollment, staffing and student support needs.
Parents and community members are encouraged to follow the agenda and attend in person or online if they want to weigh in on topics such as academic programs, facilities priorities and student wellness initiatives. The district, which serves junior and senior high schools across the Santa Clarita Valley, continues to highlight high graduation rates and expanded career pathways.
Santa Clarita man arrested in Moorpark burglary case
A 29-year-old Santa Clarita resident has been arrested in connection with a string of vehicle burglaries and related identity theft in Moorpark. Investigators say multiple cars were hit during the early morning hours this month, with credit and debit cards later used at nearby businesses.
Detectives traced a suspect vehicle and surveillance images back to Santa Clarita, where they located the man and recovered stolen property and burglary tools. He was booked in Ventura County on burglary, identity theft and other charges and remains in custody on substantial bail. Authorities are reminding residents to remove valuables and lock their cars overnight to reduce crime of opportunity.
Looking ahead
With wet weather continuing, local agencies are asking Santa Clarita residents to report downed trees or blocked storm drains and to give themselves extra time on the commute. Families may also want to check park, sports and theme park schedules for weather-related changes before heading out.
