Man killed in attempted home invasion
Stockton police are investigating a deadly shooting after a man was killed during an attempted break-in at a home over the weekend. Officers say the resident fired at the intruder during the confrontation, and the suspect died at the scene. Detectives are looking at possible self-defense claims, speaking with witnesses and reviewing nearby cameras. No arrests have been announced, and the name of the man who was killed has not yet been released while family is notified.
Elderly woman’s homicide under investigation
In a separate case, officers are investigating the stabbing death of an elderly woman in Stockton. Police say they were called to a home and found the woman with stab wounds; she later died from her injuries. Homicide detectives are working to determine what led up to the attack and whether the suspect was known to the victim. Investigators are urging anyone with information to contact the police or Crime Stoppers as they try to piece together what happened.
Highway 99 crash highlights dangerous conditions
Late Monday, a vehicle ended up hanging off the northbound Highway 99 off-ramp at Cherokee Lane in Stockton, according to CHP incident logs. The crash led to a temporary closure of the off-ramp while crews secured the car, called in a tow truck and checked for injuries. The incident came as Highway 99 saw more than 100 collisions and dozens of hazards reported across the corridor the day before, much of it tied to wet roads and changing winter weather.
Police renew traffic safety push
Local officers and the CHP continue to emphasize slower speeds, extra following distance and headlights in rain and tule fog. Recent serious crashes and ongoing winter storms have prompted fresh reminders for drivers to watch for lane closures, disabled vehicles and emergency crews working on the freeway shoulders in and around Stockton.
