Storm Damage, Power Outages and Game Day Energy Mark Busy Weekend in Tulsa

Tulsa, OK – March 8, 2026 – Storm damage, power outages, and a big home basketball matchup headline a busy weekend across the city.

Tulsa is heading into Sunday with cleanup efforts underway after a round of severe weather moved through the area late Friday and early Saturday.

Storm Damage Across North Tulsa

City officials are assessing damage after reports of a possible tornado in north Tulsa. Debris was scattered across parts of the city, including the Tulsa Tech Peoria campus, where roofing and exterior structures were heavily damaged.

Several roads were temporarily closed due to downed power lines and a reported gas leak. Residents were urged to treat any downed lines as live and to avoid affected areas while crews worked.

Thousands Without Power

At the peak of the storm, roughly 6,000 customers in Tulsa County were without electricity. Emergency management teams are coordinating with local and state partners to assess structural damage and restore services. Officials continue to ask residents to report hazards and give repair crews room to work.

Tornado Watch Issued Friday Night

The National Weather Service office in Tulsa issued a tornado watch Friday evening as strong thunderstorms pushed across eastern Oklahoma. The same system caused significant damage in neighboring counties and prompted ongoing weather alerts throughout the region.

While conditions have since improved, city leaders say additional assessments will continue into the week.

Golden Hurricane Host Temple Tonight

Amid the storm recovery, Tulsa’s sports scene remains active. The Tulsa Golden Hurricane men’s basketball team hosts Temple at the Reynolds Center tonight at 7 p.m. Tulsa enters the matchup with a strong home record and momentum late in the season.

City officials expect normal game operations but encourage fans to allow extra travel time if navigating areas recently affected by storm debris.
