Storm Fallout, Deadly Shooting and Data Center Debate Lead Tulsa Headlines
Tulsa, OK – March 12, 2026 – Severe storms, a deadly shooting, and a looming vote on data centers lead today’s local headlines.
Deadly Domestic Shooting in South Tulsa
Tulsa police are investigating a fatal shooting that happened early Tuesday near East 124th Street and South Sheridan Road.
Officers say a man forced his way into a home during a domestic dispute. A second man inside the house fired a shot, striking the intruder. The suspect was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later died.
Police continue to review evidence and interview witnesses as the investigation moves forward.
EF-1 Tornado Damages Tulsa Tech Campus
The National Weather Service has confirmed that eight tornadoes touched down in the Tulsa area during Friday night’s severe storms. One of them, rated an EF-1, caused significant damage at the Tulsa Tech campus near Peoria Avenue and 36th Street North.
Wind speeds in that tornado ranged from 86 to 110 miles per hour. Crews are still assessing structural impacts and cleaning up debris. The confirmation adds to what has already been a destructive start to March across eastern Oklahoma.
Tornado Watch Blankets Tulsa Area
On Wednesday afternoon, a tornado watch was issued for much of Oklahoma, including Tulsa County, as another round of severe weather moved through the region.
The watch remained in effect through late evening, with forecasters warning of large hail, damaging winds and the possibility of isolated tornadoes. Emergency officials urged residents to stay alert and have multiple ways to receive warnings.
City Weighs Data Center Moratorium
Tulsa city leaders are also considering a proposed year-long moratorium on new data center developments. The discussion comes as interest in large-scale facilities grows, raising questions about energy use, infrastructure demands and zoning impacts.
Supporters say a pause would give the city time to study long-term effects. Others argue Tulsa should move quickly to capture economic opportunities. The proposal is expected to draw significant public input in the coming weeks.
