Street Closures, Record Heat and Downtown Events Lead Lincoln Headlines

It’s a busy stretch in Lincoln, with traffic changes, unusual March warmth and downtown events drawing attention across the city.

Portions of O and P Streets Closing

Lincoln Transportation and Utilities announced temporary closures affecting two well-traveled corridors.

Westbound O Street between 68th and 70th streets will close overnight beginning at 9 p.m. Thursday, March 12, for signal replacement work. The closure is scheduled to last until 6 a.m. Friday, March 13. Northbound turns onto 70th Street from O Street will also be restricted, with police directing traffic during the work.

Meanwhile, P Street between Seventh and Eighth streets will close from March 14 through March 17 to accommodate St. Patrick’s Day festivities downtown. Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes and plan ahead.

Lincoln Ties Record High

After a rollercoaster winter, Lincoln just added a bit of history to the weather books. The city tied a record high of 82 degrees on March 9, matching a mark first set in 1986.

Climate data from local weather observers shows March temperatures running well above normal to start the month. With daylight hours increasing and daylight saving time now in effect, the early taste of spring has been hard to miss.

Live Music Downtown Tonight

Downtown Lincoln is also seeing plenty of activity. The Bourbon Theatre hosts AM/FM tonight, March 12, adding to a steady calendar of March events across the city.

With warmer weather and holiday celebrations ahead, city officials are reminding residents to stay aware of traffic adjustments and event-related street impacts through the weekend.
