Transit Changes, Shredding Event and SCVHS50 Gala Lead Santa Clarita Headlines
Santa Clarita, CA – March 8, 2026 – Transit schedule changes, a city shredding event, a history-themed gala, and spring programs lead local headlines.
It was a busy weekend across Santa Clarita, with transportation updates, community clean-up efforts and a major local celebration drawing attention.
Transit Schedule Changes Now in Effect
Santa Clarita Transit rolled out new local and commuter bus schedules beginning March 7. The changes include adjusted trip times and routing updates, particularly to address long-term construction near Bouquet Canyon Road and Benz Road.
Route 4 riders will notice detours and a temporary stop along westbound Copper Hill Drive at Kathleen Avenue. Route 6 weekday trips were revised to better serve the Bowman High School area, while Route 12 saw significant timing adjustments to improve Metrolink connections at the Newhall station and add service near Via Princessa.
Officials are encouraging riders to review updated schedules before commuting this week.
City Hosts Document Shredding Event
Residents turned out Saturday for the city’s Document Shredding and Carpet Disposal Event, a free service aimed at helping households safely dispose of sensitive paperwork and bulky flooring materials.
The event, listed on the official city calendar, provided a convenient way for locals to protect against identity theft while clearing out clutter. Community clean-up events like this remain popular as spring organizing gets underway.
SCVHS50 Brings History to Life
The Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society marked a milestone Saturday evening with SCVHS50: Live from Santa Clarita, It’s Saturday Night at the Canyon Country Community Center.
The ticketed gala blended dinner, music, trivia and a lively retrospective celebrating five decades of local history. Organizers described the evening as both a fundraiser and a tribute to the people and moments that shaped the valley.
Spring Programs Open for Registration
Looking ahead, the Newhall Community Center released its Spring 2026 programming schedule. Online registration for classes and activities opens Tuesday, March 10, offering youth, adult and family programs through June.
With warmer days ahead and daylight saving time beginning early Sunday morning, the city is leaning into a full slate of seasonal activities.
