Trench Rescue, Bridge Closure and Business Grants Lead Cape Coral Headlines
Cape Coral, FL – March 12, 2026 – A trench rescue, bridge lane closure, and major business moves lead today’s local headlines in Cape Coral.
Construction Worker Rescued After Trench Collapse
A dramatic rescue unfolded Monday afternoon at a construction site for a new Lee Health facility in Cape Coral. A worker became trapped in a trench estimated to be 10 to 12 feet deep after shifting soil caused him to fall and become pinned against a large concrete pipe.
Cape Coral Fire Department crews, along with multiple assisting agencies, worked carefully for nearly two hours to stabilize the trench and safely remove the worker. He was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Fire officials described the outcome as positive given the risks involved.
Overnight Lane Closure on Little Pine Island Bridge
Drivers heading toward Pine Island should plan for delays. An overnight lane closure on the Little Pine Island Bridge begins Thursday, March 12, at 8 p.m. and is expected to last until 5 a.m. Friday.
Crews will be striping the bridge as part of ongoing reconstruction efforts. Flaggers will direct traffic through the work zone. Officials are urging motorists to slow down and use caution while traveling through the area.
CRA to Consider $50,000 Business Grant
The South Cape Community Redevelopment Agency is weighing a $50,000 grant for Zuly Dental Medicine Center, which is building a new commercial facility on Southeast 9th Place. The grant would help offset costs tied to impact fees, permitting, and code compliance.
The project represents an investment of more than $1.8 million and is part of a broader effort to encourage redevelopment and support small businesses in the CRA district.
New Bank Branch Opens Near Pine Island Road
In business news, IncredibleBank has opened a newly constructed full-service branch on Liberty Park Drive near Pine Island Road. The expansion signals continued commercial growth along one of the city’s busiest corridors. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for April.
As Cape Coral continues to grow, infrastructure upgrades, new development, and public safety responses remain front and center this week.
