Tulsa Daily Briefing: SNAP Support, Student Chefs, and Big Top Fun
Tulsa, OK – February 19, 2026 – Food aid boost, student chefs, and circus plans top Tulsa’s local headlines as families juggle costs and look for fun.
SNAP ‘Add Milk’ program stretches grocery dollars in north Tulsa
A new Add Milk initiative at Oasis Fresh Market in north Tulsa is helping families make their SNAP benefits go further. The program matches eligible milk purchases dollar for dollar, effectively doubling what SNAP shoppers can spend on other groceries in the store. Milk options include 1% and lactose-free varieties, and there is no extra sign-up process for people already using SNAP at the market.
The match can be used on fruits, vegetables, pantry items, dairy, protein and other SNAP-approved foods, giving households more flexibility as new statewide restrictions on sugary drinks and candy take hold. Oasis leaders say the goal is to make healthier choices easier without adding cost or complexity for shoppers.
Tulsa students cook up culture at Global Gardens camp
Young Tulsa cooks are turning family traditions into professional-quality dishes at a Global Gardens cooking camp hosted in the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma’s kitchen. Students are drawing on family recipes and ingredients grown in school gardens to build menus that reflect their cultures and neighborhoods.
The camp gives kids hands-on experience with planning, prepping and plating meals in a commercial kitchen setting. Organizers say the program is about more than cooking skills; it is designed to build confidence, leadership and curiosity about fresh foods at a time when many families are watching food budgets closely.
Big top circus and spring events on the way
Tulsa’s calendar is filling up with family-friendly entertainment as winter winds down. A Broadway-style, animal-free big top circus is scheduled to visit the Tulsa area in April, promising a theater-like production under a classic striped tent. Ahead of that, the long-running Akdar Shrine Circus returns to Expo Square late next week with multiple performances and buy-one-get-two-free deals for kids on select tickets.
Arts groups are also capping off the long weekend with immersive experiences. A new multi-day installation event in downtown Tulsa has invited visitors to explore futuristic local art, performances and interactive exhibits, giving a boost to the city’s creative scene and nearby small businesses.
