Wilmington Gas and Diesel Prices Tick Higher as July Ends
AAA’s July 31 check puts Wilmington-Newark metro regular gas at $4.150 and diesel at $5.381 per gallon, with both prices higher than a week earlier.
Regular gasoline and diesel prices both edged higher in the Wilmington-Newark metro area as July ended, according to AAA’s price check dated July 31, 2026.
The metro average for regular gasoline reached $4.150 per gallon, up 0.8 cents from the previous day and 0.2 cents from a week earlier. AAA’s comparison data also shows regular gas running 47 cents higher than a month ago and $1.09 higher than a year ago.
Diesel also moved higher
Diesel reached $5.381 per gallon in the Wilmington-Newark metro area. That was an increase of 1 cent from Thursday and 2.1 cents from the prior week.
Over longer comparison periods, diesel was 66.1 cents more expensive than a month ago and $1.629 higher than a year earlier. Those month-to-month and year-to-year changes are much larger than the small daily and weekly increases.
What the metro average means for Wilmington drivers
These are Wilmington-Newark metro averages for Delaware, not the posted price at every station in Wilmington. Individual pumps can be higher or lower depending on the retailer, neighborhood, competition and fuel-grade options.
The increase matters most for people who drive frequently or operate vehicles that consume large amounts of fuel. Commuters may see a modest difference on each fill-up, while delivery operators, contractors, service businesses and restaurants can face a more noticeable effect when fuel costs are spread across many daily trips. Diesel users, including commercial drivers and some heavy-equipment operators, are paying more per gallon than regular-gas users.
For households planning weekend travel, comparing nearby stations before filling up may help limit the effect of the higher metro average. Businesses with frequent delivery or service routes may also be watching whether the longer-term increase continues.
AAA’s Delaware and national averages provide broader context, but they should not be treated as Wilmington-specific prices. The most precise local benchmark in this update is the Wilmington-Newark metro figure.
