Salem Parkway lanes reopen after a fallen tree
Drivers got a late-winter reminder that wind and rain can turn into real traffic headaches fast. Police said a large fallen tree shut down part of Salem Parkway on Sunday evening, with northbound lanes affected between South Stratford Road and Silas Creek Parkway. The roadway later reopened.
If you commute through that stretch regularly, it is worth staying alert for lingering debris cleanup and any follow-up lane work after storms.
WS/FCS board shortens Feb. 24 meeting; more business moved to March 5
Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools announced an abbreviated Board of Education meeting for Tuesday, Feb. 24. The agenda was narrowed to continued authorization for Restart Schools and a closed session.
Other items originally planned for that night, including Curriculum and Finance committee meetings, were shifted to a special called meeting on Thursday, March 5, with committees meeting first and the board meeting following later that evening.
City urges residents to hold off mowing until April
In a springtime push to support pollinators, city leaders are encouraging residents to delay early-season mowing and take a No Mow March pledge. The idea is to protect ground-nesting bees and keep early blooms like clover and dandelions available as food sources.
Participants can pick up a free yard sign at the Salem Lake Marina, and officials said code enforcement will not cite homeowners for tall grass during March.
Winston-Salem State drops CIAA tournament opener
Winston-Salem State’s men opened postseason play with a 65-55 loss to Bluefield State in the CIAA tournament, ending the Rams’ run in the opening round.
